The ongoing Korean drama Twenty-Five-Twenty-One has been making a buzz since its premiere. The main casts Kim Tae Ri, and Nam Joo Hyuk also ranked second and third, respectively, in the March 2022 Drama Actor Brand Reputation by the Korean Business Research Institute, one thing that proves viewers' good reception of this drama in their households.
Twenty-Five-Twenty-One has been serving us nostalgic memories as it depicts the lives of five characters spanning 1998 to 2021. Because of fencing and some fortunate circumstances, the lives of these five characters are intertwined in friendship. Though it was not a soft transition since Na Hee Do and Go Yoo Rim started offset, the atmosphere between these two characters changed when Go Yoo Rim found out that Na Hee Do is her anonymous friend online. After Go Yoo Rim confessed her identity, the burning coal between these two characters subsided and they are now each other's best friends.
Baek Yi Jin, on the other hand, seemed to be the core constellation to this friendship. He is also connected to Ji Seung Wan and Moon Ji Woong as his junior in broadcasting and high school band. Although this kind of friendship is already a cliche in Korean drama, the presentation of each character was relatable and lucid, which made them likable in their own ways. The retro vibe of this drama is also sending off deja vu to most of us who have experienced this kind of life. This could be the reason it is popular with many viewers.
Twenty-Five-Twenty-One continues to top weekly's ranking for two consecutive weeks in the data from CJ ENM. It will still break its own record since viewers are curious about who Kim Min Chae's father is. So many theories have surfaced online, but just like you, I hope it's Baek Ye Jin.
Twenty-Five-Twenty-One is available on Netflix every Saturday and Sunday.
