Let's clear up one of the most confusing topics for Filipino travelers: The K-ETA.

You've probably seen articles about a "K-ETA waiver" or "K-ETA suspension" and wondered what it means for you. Here is the simple, direct answer for 2026.

No, Filipino tourists with a Philippine passport do NOT need to apply for the K-ETA.

The K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Authorization) is a system for travelers from visa-free countries (like the USA, Canada, or the UK). It is their "pre-travel authorization."

As Philippine passport holders, we are not a visa-free country. We must apply for a traditional tourist visa.

The Source of the Confusion

The confusion began when Korea temporarily required K-ETA for some visa-free countries and then suspended that requirement. This news did not apply to the Philippines, as we were never eligible for the K-ETA in the first place.

Think of it this way:

  • K-ETA: An electronic pass for visitors who do not need a visa.

  • C-3-9 Visa: A sticker in your passport for visitors (like Filipinos) who do need a visa.

You cannot have both. If you have a Philippine passport, you must get the visa.

What You ACTUALLY Need Instead of K-ETA

Since you can ignore everything about the K-ETA, focus on the two documents you must have:

1. The C-3-9 Tourist Visa

This is your most important document. It's the sticker the Korean embassy (through KVAC) puts in your passport. Without this, you cannot even board your flight.

2. The Korea e-Arrival Card (Q-Code)

This is what you might be confusing with the K-ETA. The e-Arrival Card (also called Q-Code) is a mandatory online health and arrival declaration. Everyone must fill this out within 72 hours of their flight, including Filipino tourists who have a visa.

Final Checklist:

  • [ ] Apply for K-ETA? NO.

  • [ ] Apply for C-3-9 Visa? YES.

  • [ ] Fill out e-Arrival Card (Q-Code)? YES.

Forget the K-ETA noise. Just get your visa and fill out your e-Arrival Card, and you'll be ready for your trip.
