Your hands are sweating. You are sitting in the waiting area of an office in Ortigas (or maybe a Zoom waiting room). The HR manager calls your name.

"So, tell me about yourself."

Your mind goes blank. You try to speak in perfect English, but you stutter. You panic.

This is the nightmare of every Filipino fresh grad. We are so afraid of "Wrong Grammar" that we forget to answer the actual question.

Here is the truth: Confidence is better than perfect English.

Employers in 2026 are looking for communication skills, not an accent. They want to know if you can express your ideas clearly. If you need to switch to Taglish to make a strong point, that is often better than staying silent or stuttering in pure English.

Here are the scripts for the 3 hardest questions, using a method that works.

Question 1: "Tell me about yourself."

The Mistake: Reciting your bio-data. "I am Juan, 22 years old, I live in Quezon City..." The Fix: Use the Past-Present-Future method.

  • Past: What you studied/did in school.

  • Present: What you are looking for now.

  • Future: How you can help the company.

Sample Script (English/Taglish Mix): "I recently graduated with a degree in Comm Arts. During college, I discovered that I really loved video editing—I actually handled the video requirements for our student council (Past). That experience made me realize I want to pursue a career in digital media production (Present). I’ve been following your company’s YouTube channel, and I’m excited to apply my editing skills to help create content for your brand (Future)."

Question 2: "What is your greatest weakness?"

The Mistake: Being too honest ("Tamad po ako gumising") or lying ("I work too hard" - HR hates this!). The Fix: The Weakness + Solution method. Admit a real struggle, but show how you are fixing it.

Sample Script: "Sometimes, I struggle with public speaking because I get nervous. But knowing this, I started volunteering to host small events in my barangay/org to practice. I’m still working on it, but I’m much more confident now than I was last year."

Question 3: "Why should we hire you?"

The Mistake: Begging. "I need this job to help my family." (While true, this is not a reason for them to hire you). The Fix: Focus on ROI (Return on Investment).

Sample Script: "I know there are many other applicants with good grades. But what makes me different is that I don't just study theory—I execute. In my OJT, I didn't just file papers; I helped manage their social media page and increased engagement by 20%. I am ready to bring that same proactive energy to your team starting Day 1."

The Secret to True Confidence

Do you notice a pattern in these answers?

The answers are strong not because of the words, but because of the evidence.

  • "I handled the video requirements..."

  • "I hosted small events..."

  • "I increased engagement by 20%..."

It is easy to be confident when you have proof that you are good. It is hard to be confident when your resume is empty.

If you are reading this and thinking, "Patay, wala akong ma-kwento" (I have no stories to tell), then you don't need an interview coach. You need a portfolio.

At Korea Pinoy Media Academy (KPMA), we help you build the stories that win interviews.

  • Instead of saying "I am hardworking," show them the Short Film you produced in 5 days.

  • Instead of saying "I am creative," show them the Brand Campaign you designed.

When you have a portfolio, you don't need to memorize scripts. You just show them your work, and the work speaks for itself.
