South Korea is also known to have the norm where parents are very obsessed with their children passing prestigious universities, and that’s where SKY enters.
SKY is an abbreviation for three of the most prestigious universities in South Korea, namely, Seoul National University, Korea University, and Yonsei University. It is well known that only the best of the best students get to enter these prestigious universities.
That’s why it is common for high school students to stay up late almost everyday to attend a separate academy for the college entrance exam, or what they called sunueng.
These prestigious universities have their own share of notable alumni that further encourage students to pass the exam. Seoul National University has Ban Ki-Moon, the eighth Secretary General of the United Nations. Korea University is the home of Lee Myung-Bak, South Korea’s tenth president and former CEO of Hyundai Engineering and Construction. Yonsei University has Bong Joon-Ho, a four-time Academy Award recipient and the director of the award-winning Korean film, Parasite.
If you're planning to study in South Korea, make sure to check out these universities. But don't worry, there are still lots of universities that will surely offer and cater to the kind of education you're looking for!
