The third immersive media art show organized by the digital media design firm d'strict is ARTE Museum Valley Gangneung, situated in Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do. The museum displays the subject "Valley" and is on display to highlight the distinctive features of the geographic center of the Baekdu Mountain Range. Vibrant colors, seductive sounds, and delicate fragrances contribute to the overall experience in the works created under "Eternal Nature." Similarly, a museum in the Philippines offers the same experience, The Art in Island: The Media Square.
Founded in 2014 by South Korean Businessman Yun Jae Kyoung, the museum has a two-story building with a space of 3.800 square meters and is said to be the "biggest 3D museum in Asia". It exhibits murals that rely on optical illusions, which causes them to look 3D despite being two-dimensional. Art in Island has around 100 unique paintings, including works inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci and Edvard Munch. The museum was completed within four months by 14 Korean visual artists.
The museum closed last 2020 because of the pandemic but reopened in 2021 with the no-kids-allowed policy. Unfortunately, it had to close again in August 2022 but promised to create something "you have never seen before." Finally, it reopened on December 15, 2022, with the name "The Media Square," which is set to bring art, media, and technology through digital displays, large art projections, and transcendental audio made in collaboration with renowned digital artists from South Korea.
The museum recently trended on social platforms like TikTok, and many people spotted similarities to the ARTE Museum in Korea! Let's take a look!
