Love it or hate it, the Philippine entertainment industry has a history of adapting K-drama movies and there’s more along the way.
We can never deny the fact that Filipinos love to watch K-drama movies. Over the years, the local entertainment industry has seen its fair share of local adaptations based on different Korean titles. In 2021, there’s a lot of local adaptations such as A Hard Day, More Than Blue, and The Housemaid. There’s no denying that a good remake of these movies is a worthy watch. Take for example, The ongoing Kdrama The Broken Marriage Vow (The World of the Married). Technically, it is a remake of the BBC drama Doctor Foster but most people know it because of its Korean version, The World Of The Married. So far, the Philippine adaptation has been receiving rave reviews due to its tension building, production and especially Jodi Sta. Maria’s exceptional performance as Dr. Jill Illustre. With that being said, here are some confirmed local remakes of Kdramas coming soon to keep an eye out for.
1. Start Up
Since Bea Alonzo moved to GMA, there has been speculation about what project she and Alden Richards will star in. One of them is now known to us. The two are set to star in a local adaptation of Start-Up, which was recently announced. The K-drama is set in the world of computer start-ups and stars Nam Joo Hyuk, Suzy Bae, Kim Seon Ho, and Kang Hanna. Seo Dalmi navigates her way across the worlds of commerce, technology, and everything in between in this slice-of-life drama. Bea Alonzo claimed that she was already being pitched the project before she officially became a Kapuso.
2. Flower Of Evil
Piolo Pascual as a blonde? It really is, in fact, taking place. Flower of Evil is a Philippine version of the Korean drama of the same name, which was announced in 2021. Baek Hee-sung (Lee Joon-gi) is a man who hides his identity and past from his detective wife Cha Ji-won (Moon Chae-won) in the original series. Things appear to be going well for the pair, but as Cha Ji-won and her colleagues begin investigating a string of mysterious killings, she realizes that her spouse may be concealing dark secrets from her. Piolo Pascual and Lovi Poe appear in the teleserye, which will air later this year. It appears like things are about to get heated and suspenseful, based on what has been teased.
3. A Love To Kill
A Love To Kill, a 2005 K-drama starring Rain and Shin Min-a, is an oldie but a goodie. Boxer Bok-Gu and actress Cha Eun-Seok are the central characters in the plot. When Bok-Gu becomes Cha Eun-bodyguard, Seok's she begins to develop affections for her. But, unbeknownst to her, Bok-Gu has become her bodyguard in order to get revenge for his brother's attempted suicide, which was precipitated by Cha Eun-departure. Seok's Andrea Torres and Ian Veneracion will star in the Philippine adaptation, which will begin filming soon. Apart from being a remake, this project is noteworthy because it is one of the first Filipino shows made expressly for Netflix.
4. A Moment to Remember
Bea and Alden will star in a number of Pinoy remakes, including Start-Up. It was reported in 2021 that the two were scheduled to star in a remake of A Moment to Remember, a Korean film released in 2004 that is based on the 2001 Japanese drama Pure Soul. The 2004 film portrays a couple who endure difficulties as a result of one of the characters' Alzheimer's disease. Special Memory is the rumored title for the remake, which is now in production.
