Arts Council Korea (ARKO), a national organization for the arts and culture of Korea will host an online public hearing on April 16, 2021 (Friday) at 2 pm (Korean Standard Time). ARKO intends to know the issues and concerns of foreign artists with E6 Visas.
With the theme "An Online Public Hearing for the Improvement of Artist Visa (E6) Conditions," it is the first public hearing of its kind. It will be participated in by foreign artists working in South Korea, such as American actress Elaine Vega, and dancer from Burkina Faso Sanou Emmanuel. Legal professionals, academia, and government officials will also be part of the event.
Jong-Kwan Park, chairperson of ARKO said, “To improve conditions for creative activities of immigrant artists, from 2021, the qualification requirements for the Culture and Arts Promotion Fund public grants have been eased to accept applications from foreigners with certification of artistic activities. This online public hearing is expected to be a valuable first step toward a practical legal system that fosters diversity in Korea’s culture and arts scene.”
Namkuk Kim, a member of the National Assembly (representing Ansan-si Danwon-gu Eul, Democratic Party of Korea) said, "I hope to see diverse and insightful discussions at the online public hearing to result in reasonable solutions for the issues at hand," and that "as a National Assembly member who represents Ansan-si, one of the most multi-cultural cities in Korea, I will endeavor to improve the policies so that immigrant artists can devote themselves to creative and artistic activities with peace of mind."
The Subcommittee on Art Scene Communication, ARKO organized the event with the support of Kim Namkuk.
