The Commission on Filipinos Overseas, headed by Secretary Francisco P. Acosta and Usec. Astravel Pimentel-Naik, is inviting all overseas Filipinos in South Korea to participate in the ONLINE UGNAYAN SA KOREA scheduled on November 8, 2020 (2:00 pm Korea Standard Time) via Zoom and Facebook Live.
The third in the series of UGNAYAN Webinars being organized by the CFO for this year, this virtual meeting with the theme #PINOYSeOULFIGHTING is co-convened by the Philippine Embassy-Seoul. It also serves as a follow-up to the UGNAYAN held in South Korea last year.
The Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted and affected economic activities, delivery of some government programs and services, and the normal day-to-day life of people worldwide. The pandemic which was declared by the World Health Organization a “global health emergency”, has overwhelmed the healthcare system, claimed thousands of lives and adversely affected overseas Filipinos.
As of October 25, 2020, the Department of Foreign Affairs reported that the total number of overseas Filipinos afflicted with COVID-19 hit the 11,000 mark with 815 casualties, in 81 countries, including South Korea. The country is among the top destination countries of our Filipino emigrants and marriage migrants. Aside from many healthworker frontliners and OFs who lost their lives, thousands have lost their jobs and were forced to return to the Philippines. Since February 2020, more than 231,000 were repatriated by the DFA back to the Philippines. As more and more overseas Filipinos are affected by COVID-19, the CFO remains committed under the “New Normal” in assisting them and innovating its programs and services, including the UGNAYAN.
CFO has invited Filipino community leaders, Presidential awardees, media personalities and experts to talk about the issues and challenges faced by Filipinos in South Korea during this COVID-19 pandemic; and how the Philippine government could assist them. Initiatives and activities of Filipino organizations in South Korea will also be tackled.
The UGNAYAN is a flagship program of the CFO which aims to strengthen motherland ties and link with Filipino communities abroad. The webinar is also open to the public via CFO FB Live. Please visit the CFO Official Facebook page (Commission on Filipinos Overseas) to register and know more about the event. After the webinar, accomplish the event evaluation form to get an electronic copy of Certificate of Participation.
